Chica Dolls Need To Be Loved
“It seems to be obvious that Riet Meert from Belgium, who now lives in Berlin, Germany and produces sweet and nasty little Chica Dolls, has majored in Graphic Design and Illustration as the individually sewed doll’s style reflects the style of sticker art characters. Riet Meert has been creating Chica Dolls since she started off sewing the little textile creatures for her thesis in 2003. When friends and the public became interested in the Chicas, Riet not only sold the characters, she has also had exhibitions in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands as well as in Spain since 2005 and has been featured in several magazines. Riet Meert creates and sews Chica Doll series not only in different materials and colours but also in different sizes upon request. In the beginning of February 2011 she has opened her own agency for Art and Music, called PARALLEL.”
